আপনার ইংরেজি শেখার এই ধাপে আমরা শিখব ‘Be Supposed To’ গঠন। এটি একটি বিশেষ কাঠামো যা প্রধানত প্রত্যাশা (expectation), দায়িত্ব বা কর্তব্য (obligation/duty), এবং সাধারণ বিশ্বাস (what is generally believed) বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। এটি আপনাকে ইংরেজিতে এমন বিষয়গুলো নিয়ে কথা বলতে সাহায্য করবে যা করা উচিত, যা হওয়ার কথা, বা যা প্রচলিত।

‘Be Supposed To’ গঠন কখন ব্যবহার হয়?

আমরা ‘Be Supposed To’ গঠন ব্যবহার করি তিনটি প্রধান ক্ষেত্রে:

• প্রত্যাশা বা অনুমান (Expectation/Assumption): কোনো কিছু ঘটার কথা বা কোনো কাজ করার কথা বোঝাতে।
  • যেমন: সভাটি সকাল ১০টায় শুরু হওয়ার কথা (The meeting is supposed to start at 10 AM)।
• দায়িত্ব বা কর্তব্য (Obligation/Duty): কোনো কাজ করা আপনার দায়িত্ব বা কর্তব্য বোঝাতে, প্রায়শই একটি নিয়মের কারণে।
  • যেমন: তোমাকে অবশ্যই তোমার হোমওয়ার্ক করতে হবে (You are supposed to do your homework)।
• সাধারণ বিশ্বাস (What is Generally Believed): যখন কোনো কিছু প্রচলিত বিশ্বাস বা গুজব হিসেবে বলা হয়।
  • যেমন: সে নাকি খুব ধনী (He is supposed to be very rich)।

Verbs in Action: Active vs. Passive Voice (‘Be Supposed To’ Construction)

‘Be Supposed To’ গঠনের সাথে Active এবং Passive Voice কীভাবে গঠিত হয়, তা দেখে নিন। মনে রাখবেন, Passive Voice-এ Subject কাজটি করবে না, বরং কাজটি তার ওপর করা হবে।

*পুনরায় উল্লেখ্য: “I am supposed to be eaten” বাস্তবতার সাথে না মিললেও শিক্ষার জন্য এবং মনে রাখার সুবিধার জন্য ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে।

Transitive vs. Intransitive Verbs (পুনরালোচনা)

• Transitive verb: যে ক্রিয়ার object থাকে বা থাকতে পারে। (যেমন: I am supposed to eat rice.)
• Intransitive verb: যার object থাকে না। (যেমন: I am supposed to go to Dhaka.)

সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ নিয়ম (The Golden Rule): ‘Be Supposed To’ গঠনের জন্য!

ইংরেজিতে বাক্য (sentence) বানানোর সময় Verb (ক্রিয়া)-এর রূপ পরিবর্তন হয় Subject (কর্তা)-এর ওপর নির্ভর করে। ‘Be Supposed To’ গঠনের ক্ষেত্রে Subject অনুযায়ী am, is বা are বসে, এবং তারপর supposed to + Verb-এর V1 রূপটিই বসে। Non-verb-এর ক্ষেত্রে am/is/are supposed to be বসবে।
